Reproductive Surgeries - Treating Infertility at Dallas IVF in Plano

Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku are experts in all aspects of infertility surgery, having collectively performed over 2,000 infertility-related surgical operations. Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku were fortunate to train under some of the premier endoscopic surgeons in the country. They now use these skills and knowledge developed through years of training to surgically treat infertility patients from Frisco, Allen, Dallas, McKinney and other surrounding communities.

At Dallas IVF, we have a special interest in treating women who require advanced endoscopic procedures in order to increase their chance of conceiving. Many reproductive endocrinologists require the presence of another physician to assist them with outpatient procedures, which often adds an extra expense for the patient to incur. Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku perform all their ambulatory infertility procedures themselves at Dallas IVF in Plano without the need for another physician's assistance. Because of their expertise and experience, Drs. Ku and Barnett serve as a valuable resource for other physicians in the community performing difficult and complex infertility-related reproductive surgeries. Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku perform all of their surgeries at either Presbyterian Hospital of Plano or Presbyterian Plano Center for Diagnostics and Surgery or at Baylor Medical Center at Frisco. Some of the common reproductive and infertility surgeries performed by Dr. Barnett and Dr. Ku at Dallas IVF include:

Laparoscopy

Laparoscopy is an outpatient surgical procedure often performed to treat infertility at Dallas IVF, located near Allen and McKinney. The laparoscopy procedure is performed using a laparoscope, which is a narrow instrument attached to a video camera. Through a small incision in the belly button, the laparoscope is able to transfer video images of pelvic structures onto a monitor so that they can be viewed. Through one or two other small incisions on the abdomen, narrow surgical instruments can be inserted to help inspect the pelvic structures for abnormalities and to make repairs. These surgical procedures are performed by Dr. Ku or Dr. Barnett to either enhance a woman’s fertility or prepare her for future fertility treatments at Dallas IVF. Because this type of treatment is minimally invasive, recovery time and post-operative discomfort are reduced in comparison to traditional methods of surgery.

Laparoscopy is commonly performed by Dallas IVF physicians to:

  • Treat endometriosis
  • Remove scar tissue
  • Remove small fibroids
  • Determine tubal patency and function
  • Remove ovarian cysts
  • Repair or remove extensively diseased fallopian tubes

Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is an outpatient surgical procedure performed using a hysteroscope, which is a narrow instrument attached to a video camera. The hysteroscope is placed through the cervical canal and into the uterine cavity to examine the uterus to diagnose and surgically treat abnormalities. At Dallas IVF, our physicians specialize in treating abnormalities of the uterine cavity that may otherwise interfere with implantation or lead to miscarriage. Hysteroscopy, like laparoscopy, is considered a minimally invasive procedure, resulting in less post-operative discomfort and a shorter recovery time than would be experienced with traditional methods of surgery.

Hysteroscopy is commonly performed by Dallas IVF physicians to:

  • Remove polyps
  • Remove submucous or cavitary fibroids
  • Remove intrauterine adhesions/scar tissue
  • Repair congenital uterine anomalies

Abdominal Myomectomy

Abdominal myomectomy is an inpatient surgery for the removal of large uterine fibroids that can cause infertility or lead to reproductive health problems including excessive blood flow and pelvic pain. Dr. Ku and Dr. Barnett use advanced surgical techniques at Dallas IVF in Plano to decrease the risk of postoperative scar tissue formation, which could otherwise decrease a woman’s future chances of conceiving.

Müllerian Reconstructive Surgery

Müllerian reconstructive surgery is surgery to repair rare congenital uterine anomalies caused by defects in the Müllerian ducts, which can range from mild to severe. These abnormalities can cause obstructed menstrual flow and other reproductive health problems including infertility.
